Position Overview:

The Senior Manager (Engineering & Technical) for Data Center Operations is responsible for overseeing supervisors, engineers, and the critical infrastructure at each IBX site. This role entails upholding engineering and technical standards, managing capital and operational budgets, and leading the incident management process for the sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management:
    • Supervise teams of engineers, supervisors, and project/program managers.
    • Ensure safe and effective operations while adhering to high operational standards and minimizing human error.
    • Handle personnel matters including salaries, hiring/firing, performance reviews, coaching, and professional development.
  • Site Capacity Management:
    • Oversee overall site capacity, including power utilization, customer requests, and expansion assessments.
  • Project and Infrastructure Management:
    • Plan, coordinate, and review budgets while implementing resources to complete projects and maintenance across all data centers.
    • Manage operational and capital budgets for the sites.
    • Lead capital and engineering projects across the sites.
  • Vendor Management:
    • Oversee contractor operations to ensure compliance with Equinix's standards, KPIs, and SLAs.
    • Manage maintenance scheduling and vendor performance.
    • Handle vendor contracts, including negotiations and pricing.
  • Testing:
    • Ensure adherence to correct processes and completeness of documentation.
    • Lead the transition and integration of new builds and infrastructure.
    • Review and develop methods of procedure (MOPs), emergency operating procedures (EOPs), and other operational scripts.
  • Incident Management:
    • Lead incident response and coordinate activities with the engineering team during events.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination of on-site staff during incidents.
    • Assist in root cause analysis and resolution of incidents.
    • Establish processes and training for personnel on incident management.
  • Financial Management:
    • Lead operational and capital project budgeting and forecasting.
  • Engineering:
    • Coordinate critical facilities engineering teams and ensure delivery of engineering standards across sites.
    • Engage with global engineering teams and communicate effectively with local teams.
    • Drive sustainability goals by developing and reviewing power utilization and efficiency across sites.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • 10-15 years of extensive experience in heavy industry or data center management, specifically with technical/engineering teams.
  • Qualified electrical or mechanical engineer, preferably with experience in electrical switching and relevant certifications.
  • Proven experience in managing engineering teams and associated budgets.
  • Strong project management background.
  • Experience in managing electrical, mechanical, and HVAC/fire systems maintenance programs and fault response.
