Data Center Operations Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Center Operations Specialist to join our Engineering and Facilities team at Amazon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of our electrical and mechanical infrastructure in our Data Centers (DCs) located in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud regions.
Key Responsibilities- Safety and Risk Management: Ensure the highest safety standards are maintained and a world-class safety culture is fostered. Collaborate with other teams to remediate safety risks and issues.
- Engineering and Facility Operations and Maintenance: Leverage operational experience and familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment, including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS's), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS's), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), and Transformers.
- Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA's) and take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log-taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).
- Leadership and Team Management: Supervise contractor or Engineering Operations Technicians to ensure proper operation and maintenance of all facility equipment. Drive continuous improvement efforts on infrastructure through standardization of procedures and policies, while delivering performance against agreed metrics.
- Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and assist in recruiting efforts.
- Root Cause Analysis and Mitigation: Lead the root cause analysis for operational issues, and conduct meetings with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to finalize mitigation strategies.
- Physical Demands and Work Schedule: Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with regulations). Ability to work shifts (morning, late, and night) and participate in on-call rotation reaction to off-duty emergency calls.
High school or equivalent diploma. Experience in data center engineering is preferred.
