Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Wearable Biosensor Technology

Are you passionate about advancing medical research?

We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow specializing in electrochemical sensors and microbiology to engage in a pioneering interdisciplinary project at Karolinska Institutet. This role presents a unique opportunity to participate in groundbreaking research aimed at developing wearable sensor devices for medical diagnostics, leveraging a blend of electrochemistry, sensor technology, and microbiological techniques.

Department Overview

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position within the Parlak Lab, part of the Division of Dermatology and Venereology, Department of Medicine, Solna, and the Centre for Molecular Medicine (CMM). The Parlak Lab is dedicated to innovating medical diagnostic methodologies through the design of wearable sensors targeting microbiology, immunology, and neuroscience. Our group is committed to fostering interdisciplinary research, unlocking new fundamental insights in the field.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will join the Parlak Lab to contribute to a recently funded project focused on developing high-quality biosensors and investigating bacterial skin infections. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Fabrication of electrochemical devices and design of synthetic and semi-synthetic biorecognition elements for bacterial detection.
  • Collaboration with team members to create high-throughput biomedical devices.
  • Conducting electrochemical analyses and designing biosensor devices.
  • Reporting findings and disseminating data to support the overarching goals of the project, which aim to enhance rapid, accurate, and safe biosensing to improve clinical treatment decisions.

This is a temporary position, with the potential duration extending up to 24 months.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be an inquisitive and motivated individual with a strong interest in our research area. We seek someone who can work collaboratively within a team while fostering a positive laboratory environment. Required qualifications include:

  • A doctoral degree in natural or engineering sciences.
  • Experience in electrochemistry, biosensors, and cell culture is highly valued.
  • A high degree of independence and motivation, coupled with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Fluency in English is essential.

International candidates are encouraged to apply, as scholarships for postdoctoral qualifications are available for researchers who meet the eligibility criteria.

Location

This position is situated within the Department of Medicine, Solna, specifically in the Division of Dermatology and Venereology, where you will collaborate closely with Onur Parlak at the Centre for Molecular Medicine (CMM).

Scholarship Details

The scholarship is tax-free and awarded for twelve-month increments, with payments made biannually. In exceptional circumstances, shorter scholarship periods may be considered.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following documents in English or Swedish:

  • A comprehensive curriculum vitae, detailing academic positions, distinctions, and committee work.
  • A complete list of publications.
  • A summary of current research activities (maximum one page).

All applications must be submitted through the designated recruitment system.
