Postdoctoral Research in Wearable Biosensor Technology
Are you passionate about advancing medical research?
We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow specializing in electrochemical sensors and microbiology to contribute to an innovative interdisciplinary project in translational medical research at Karolinska Institutet. This role presents a unique opportunity to engage in pioneering research focused on the development of wearable sensor devices for medical diagnostics, utilizing a blend of electrochemistry, sensor technology, and microbiological techniques.
Department Overview
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position within the Parlak Lab, part of the Division of Dermatology and Venereology at the Department of Medicine, Solna, and the Centre for Molecular Medicine (CMM). The Parlak Lab is dedicated to creating novel diagnostic methodologies through the design of wearable sensors aimed at microbiology, immunology, and neuroscience. Our team is committed to establishing new interdisciplinary research avenues, recognizing the vast potential for groundbreaking discoveries.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join the Parlak Lab as a postdoctoral research fellow focusing on electrochemical sensors and microbiology. You will collaborate with a research team dedicated to developing high-quality biosensors and investigating bacterial skin infections.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Fabricating electrochemical devices and designing synthetic and semi-synthetic biorecognition elements for bacterial detection.
- Contributing to the research team’s efforts to produce high-quality biomedical devices in a high-throughput environment.
- Conducting electrochemical analyses and biosensor device evaluations.
- Preparing reports and disseminating research findings.
Your contributions will support the overarching goal of the project: to facilitate rapid, accurate, and safe biosensing, ultimately enhancing clinical decision-making for improved patient outcomes. Although this position is temporary, it may extend up to 24 months.
Qualifications
We seek a curious, enthusiastic individual with a strong interest in our research area, eager to explore new scientific pathways. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a collaborative spirit, a productive approach to teamwork, and a commitment to fostering a positive laboratory environment.
Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in natural or engineering sciences. Experience in electrochemistry, biosensors, and cell culture is essential and will be considered a significant advantage in achieving the project's objectives. Candidates should exhibit a high degree of independence and motivation while being comfortable working within a team framework. Proficiency in English is required.
Scholarship Information
Postdoctoral scholarships may be available for international researchers who meet the qualifications in Sweden. Individuals residing in Sweden or who have completed their academic education at Karolinska Institutet or other Swedish institutions are not eligible for these scholarships. The purpose of these scholarships is to promote international collaboration and enhance research qualifications following the completion of a doctorate or equivalent.
Scholarships for postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four-year period following the attainment of a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification.
Location
This position is situated within the Department of Medicine, Solna, specifically in the Division of Dermatology and Venereology, where you will collaborate closely with Onur Parlak at the Centre for Molecular Medicine (CMM).
Application Process
Interested candidates should prepare the following documents in English or Swedish:
- A comprehensive curriculum vitae, including the date of thesis defense, thesis title, previous academic positions, current role, academic distinctions, and committee work.
- A complete list of publications.
- A summary of current research (maximum one page).
Applications should be submitted through the designated recruitment system.
