Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Game Design Lead to join our team. As a Game Design Lead, you will be responsible for driving the design work within the studio, helping project teams turn the creative vision into tangible design that gets into the hands of our players. You will have a great opportunity to employ player feedback to enhance the gaming experience continuously.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Leadership: Collaborate with directors on the vision and goals for design, coaching project teams to turn those visions into tangible designs.
  • Design Direction: Provide design direction to the team, including delegating work, coaching, mentoring, and planning with the producer and other stakeholders.
  • Hands-on Design Work: Spend around 50% of your position doing hands-on design work: conceptualizing, prototyping, testing, and implementing gameplay systems.
  • Discovery Phases: Drive discovery phases and other design processes with support from associate producers.
  • Collaboration: Drive collaboration with other disciplines such as art, production, and engineering, ensuring alignment and cohesion for the overall game experience.
  • Pipeline Improvement: Contribute to improvements in our design pipelines and strategy.
  • Documentation: Document guidelines, workflows, and best practices.
  • Staying Up-to-Date: Stay up to date with relevant game information such as KPIs, player surveys, new releases, and updates.
  • Team Management: Conduct 1:1 meetings with the team, recruit, onboard, and offboard team members.
Requirements
  • Experience: Several years of experience as a game designer with a solid understanding of game loops, systems, and their impact on the player experience.
  • MMO Experience: Experience working with MMOs; experience with live service games is a bonus.
  • Leadership Experience: Experience in a leadership role with the ability to coach a team on their personal development and goal setting.
  • Prototyping and Conceptualizing: Experience with prototyping and conceptualizing new gameplay systems and working with system design.
  • Advocacy: A will to advocate for players and company goals and contribute to building a culture of constructive feedback within the design craft.
  • Problem-Solving: A passion for solving problems and overcoming challenges.
  • Commercial and Proprietary Game Engines: Strong knowledge of commercial and proprietary game engines and tools.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: The ability to use data to qualitatively inform design decisions.
  • Communication: An ability to effectively document and convey ideas, complex concepts, and design visions.
  • English Communication: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Mobile and Cross-Platform Development: Experience in mobile and cross-platform development is considered a big plus.
