Engineering Manager

Greater Jönköping Metropolitan Area, Sweden Zendr Full time

About the role

We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to join our growing tech organization. This is a dedicated people leadership role - you won't be writing code day-to-day, but you'll be deeply involved in building high-performing teams, developing engineers' careers, and shaping how we work together.

As our first dedicated Engineering Manager, you'll work closely with our Head of Engineering, Tech Leads, and CPTO to create an environment where engineers thrive, grow, and deliver their best work. You'll be responsible for the people side of engineering - from 1-on-1s and performance development to hiring, onboarding, and team health.

This is a role for someone who genuinely cares about people, gets energy from helping others succeed, and isn't afraid to have difficult conversations. We're looking for a doer who builds relationships, solves problems, and makes things happen.

Key responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the growth and development of engineers across multiple teams - through coaching, clear goals, and continuous support.
  • Conduct regular 1-on-1s, provide feedback, and drive career conversations
  • Partner with Tech Leads to identify growth opportunities and address performance challenges
  • Assist in the hiring process
  • Build and maintain a healthy engineering culture as we scale
  • Support salary reviews, promotions, and compensation discussions
  • Identify skill gaps and drive training initiatives
  • Be a trusted advisor and sounding board for engineers at all levels
  • Help resolve conflicts and navigate team dynamics
  • Champion well-being and sustainable working practices

About you

You're an experienced people leader who's done the work - not just talked about it. You've built trust with engineers, had the hard conversations, and helped people grow in meaningful ways. You understand software development enough to earn respect, but your passion is people, not code.

You're proactive, structured, and reliable. When you see a problem, you fix it. When someone needs support, you're there. You communicate clearly, listen actively, and follow through on commitments.

We're looking for someone who has

  • 3+ years of experience in engineering management or equivalent experience as a Tech Lead with substantial people responsibilities
  • Proven track record of developing engineers and building team culture
  • Experience with performance management, feedback, and career development
  • Background in software engineering (you understand the work, even if you don't do it daily)
  • Strong communication skills - written and verbal
  • Experience hiring and onboarding technical talent
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and build structure where needed
  • Experience with agile methodologies and cross-functional collaboration

High value if you also bring

  • Experience scaling engineering teams in a high-growth environment
  • Background in B2B SaaS or product-led organizations
  • Experience working alongside (not replacing) Tech Leads
  • Coaching certification or formal training in people development
