Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is between €30,000 and €50,000 per year, depending on location and qualifications. Job Description

This master's thesis project focuses on developing Energy Communities in limited geographical areas. Specifically, we will explore the potential for creating Energy Communities within parishes of the Church of Sweden. The selected student will investigate how different types of energy communities can be established, considering factors such as photovoltaic installation, energy storage capacity, and load characteristics.

  • The project aims to analyze the business case for various parish characters, evaluating their potential Photovoltaic (PV) installation, possible energy storages, and load characteristics.
  • Investigate how different types of energy communities would impact the 'case', describe different virtual communities and compare them with communities including underlying meshed networks.
  • Examine the legal framework challenges, the increase of self-consumption, and how to make it an economical viable solution. Identify other possible benefits for the parish.
  • Assess differences in grid tariffs and how they influence the earning capacity.
  • Define the recommended way forward in more detail, describe the business case, the process steps and work needed to make it possible to take a decision on a first pilot case.
  • Analyze a broader scenario where other local actors (e.g., farmers with PV) are also part of a community. How would that impact the solution and how to solve the energy trading between the actors?
Required Skills and Qualifications

We seek students who have recently completed or are soon to complete their academic studies in relevant fields such as Electric Power Engineering, System, Energy System, or Data Science. Essential qualifications include:

  • A minimum scope of 30 hp
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Experience with working in MATLAB Simulink
  • Experience with C/C# is a merit
  • Experience with calculation of business cases and models
