Civil Engineering Researcher: Investigating Spillway Dynamics
1 week ago
We are a leading energy company committed to enabling fossil-free living. With over 100 years of innovation and collaboration, we strive to electrify industries, power homes, and transform life.
Our purpose is to create a fossil-free future, and we invite students to contribute to this vision. As a researcher, you will have the unique opportunity to apply your knowledge in civil engineering to investigate the dynamics of spillways.
About the ProjectThe project focuses on understanding flow patterns at different operation conditions of a chute spillway. Your task will be to clarify the reason for concrete damages and suggest potential remedial measures or reshape the chute longitudinal profile.
Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling with ANSYS FLUENT, you will simulate representative flow cases to capture the most unfavorable operation scenario. Additionally, you will examine potential countermeasures in the modeling process.
Responsibilities- Conduct a background and literature review related to dam safety and hydraulic engineering.
- Collect data from existing dam models and experimental tests.
- Learn CFD modeling techniques and set up a CFD model with experimental verification.
- Perform CFD simulations and analyze results.
- Write a comprehensive report detailing your findings and recommendations.
- Hold a university degree in civil engineering, engineering physics, or a related field.
- Have a strong command of written English.
- Be interested in hydropower, dam safety, and hydraulic engineering.
- Available to work for four months during 2025.
We offer a competitive salary of approximately €2,500 per month, commensurate with experience. Our diverse and inclusive team environment provides opportunities for professional growth and development.
Vattenfall is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued. Join us in our mission to create a fossil-free future.
