About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled R&D Product Safety Engineer to join our team at Hitachi Energy in Västerås. As a key member of our Grid Power Quality Solutions & Service team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and reliability of cutting-edge technologies for power grid applications.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Safety Risk Assessment: Assess and mitigate safety risks in ongoing R&D projects, ensuring compliance with industry norms and standards.
  2. Safety Design Guidance: Guide R&D teams in the proper application of safety design principles, with a focus on chemical energy storage technologies for power grid applications.
  3. Product Safety Guidelines: Collaborate with line management to define and implement guidelines for Product Safety to be used during Product Development.
  4. Training and Development: Create training materials and support the training of R&D engineers on safety best practices.
  5. Customer Support: Provide support to customer projects in product safety issues, ensuring alignment with customer needs and expectations.
  6. Safety Strategy Development: Contribute to the development of our safety and reliability strategy, working closely with Product management and R&D experts.
Requirements
  1. Education: University degree in engineering, mechanical, electrical, chemical, or a related field.
  2. Experience: Proven work experience in power generation, oil & gas, power grids, or a related field.
  3. Specialized Knowledge: Experience in safety and reliability engineering practices related to chemical energy storage systems on utility scale level, such as batteries, super capacitors, or hydrogen.
  4. Industry Standards: Knowledge of relevant norms, standards, and directives, including the Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, ISO 12100, IEC, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, and IEC 62061.
  5. Certification: Certified as CMSE (Certified Machinery Safety Expert) or comparable.
