The Role

Our high-performing Software Engineering team develops and maintains software solutions that form part of our product portfolio or serve as internal support systems. The team consists of 9 employees and around 10 consultants reporting directly to the Head of Software Engineering.

As Head of Software Engineering, you will oversee daily operations and own the software development process and projects. You will ensure that software solutions are delivered efficiently with specifications coming from various parts of the organization.

You will be responsible for planning and acting on training and competence needs, capacity building, and growth of team members. You will identify and address short- and long-term competence and capacity needs to maintain in-house solution competence.

Key responsibilities include monitoring and managing development costs, collaborating with the Sourcing Manager on consultant agreements, and recruiting and managing external development resources.

The role involves maintaining the quality and effectiveness of team deliveries and optimizing staffing by balancing internal employees and consultants within budget.

Additionally, you will co-own Connexion's DevOps framework together with the Head of CNO (Cloud Network Operations) and ensure the identification and assignment of post-launch responsibilities, including Life Cycle Management aspects.

This is a broad cross-functional role with relations to multiple departments internally and towards stakeholders at all levels within Telenor Group and our customers' organizations.

Tasks and Responsibilities

As Head of Software Engineering, you will implement necessary tools and services to ensure your team performs tasks efficiently. While daily coding is not the primary focus, a strong background and experience in software development are essential to effectively support your team and drive the company's strategic agenda in software engineering.

Specific Tasks Include:

  • Ensure All Software Platforms in Use Are Well Documented and Operative Tasks Are Handed Off to Operations.
  • Ensure That All Development Processes and Projects Comply with Regulations and Internal Policies and Standards, Including ISO27001/ISO9001 Standards and GDPR.
  • Maintain Extensive Technology Supplier Knowhow.
  • Keep Up with Market and Industry Trends.
  • Evaluate and Consider Introduction of New and Emerging Technologies.
  • Assess and Plan for Phasing Out Outdated Technology Nodes.
  • Ensure That Build, Test, and Deploy Strategies Adhere to Industry Best Practices.
  • Maintain Relationship and Influence Group Strategies Regarding Cross-BU Support for Software Development.
  • Member of CAB (Connexion Architecture Board) and Provide Expertise on Development Aspects.
Experience and Skills
  • MSc/BSc in Software Engineering or Equivalent Degree.
  • Minimum 8 Years of Industry Experience.
  • Experience from Management and Leadership Roles.
  • Experience in Software Development Methodologies, Tools, and Best Practices.
  • Experience in Cloud-Based Software Architectures in General, Amazon Web Services in Particular.
  • Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills in English and Swedish.
