Diamyd Medical develops precision medicine therapies for the prevention and treatment of autoimmune diabetes. The company has locations in both Stockholm City and Umeå. The new facility for manufacturing of biological products that has been established in Umeå has the primary purpose to manufacture recombinant GAD65, the active pharmaceutical ingredient in their own medicine Diamyd. The long-term goal for the facility is to produce enough rhGAD65 to meet the market demand for Diamyd as well as being a key player in the production of biological substances for other drug projects.
As Director of Business Development, Biological Manufacturing Site, you will have an integral role in launching the new manufacturing facility in Umeå to the market. You will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and expansion of the business. You will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and implementing new business opportunities within the framework of Diamyd Medical's overall goals. This includes potential manufacturing of additional internal assets as well as external collaboration opportunities within the CDMO and CMO sector. You will be a member of the management team at the manufacturing facility in Umeå and report to the Chief Executive Officer of Diamyd Medical AB.
Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer Manufacturing site, be a strategic link between the plant and the CEO and the Chief Business Officer (CBO) of Diamyd Medical.
- Develop the plant's business development work and strategy in line with overall strategic business goals.
- Actively participate in the local management team's decision-making processes.
- Proactively identify and qualify new leads and opportunities through networking, industry events, cold calling, and other channels.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including biotech companies, pharmaceutical firms, and research organizations.
- Lead negotiations with clients to secure favorable terms and agreements, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, including operations, technical, and regulatory teams, to ensure seamless project execution and delivery.
Requirements
- Previous roles in business development or as CBO/CEO with proven success in leading and developing operations within the biotech/pharma industry.
- Experience of working in GMP-regulated environments is a plus.
- Strong leadership skills and effective communication and presentation skills in Swedish and English, with the ability to influence and persuade key stakeholders.
- Business thinking with a strategic approach to identify growth opportunities and foster innovation.
- Understanding of biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes, regulatory requirements, and industry trends.
- MBA or comparable business-oriented degree is an advantage but can be replaced by relevant hands-on experience of creating, building and growing companies.
- The role requires frequent physical presence at the manufacturing site in Umeå.
