Our experienced underwriting professionals use their specialized expertise to underwrite even the most complex risks innovatively and we are now looking for a Marine Cargo Underwriting Manager for the Nordics (Sweden, Denmark and Norway) to help us achieve the best possible outcomes for AXA XL and our clients.

As a member of the Nordics leadership team, you will report to the Country Manager Nordic region, partner with the local insurance Leadership Team and have a matrix reporting line into the CUO Marine, Asia and Europe. You will be a hands-on leader responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, operational and technical oversight for the Nordic Marine Cargo business, as well as day to day management of the Nordic Marine Cargo team, including staffing, recruiting, compensation, budget, compliance, client service, performance goals setting as well as coaching to bring the best out of your team.

You will be based in the AXA XL Stockholm office.

This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

·Lead, manage and drive the Nordic Marine Cargo business development and execution of the Nordic, regional (APAC Europe) and global Marine strategy – for renewals as well as identifying and producing new profitable business

·Monitor the development of the portfolio against the strategy using the tools in place and ensure Property Rules and Guidelines are correctly implemented

·Contribute to high data quality in the systems in order to make decisions based on robust metrics

·Build and lead an outstanding team of people to meet the needs of the organization now and for the future by attracting top talent, managing performance and ensuring people development

·Maintain expertise with the products, services, priorities, and targeted markets

·Own and contribute to business planning, analysis and result management; monitor financial exposure and premium income to ensure it remains within set limits

·Work closely with other function heads and Country Management to ensure an effective partnership between underwriting, administration, actuarial, claims and other functions

·Build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients and be recognized as the thought leader of Marine Cargo in the Nordics. Communicate regularly in the market for that purpose

·Be the key representative in the BU APAC and Europe for the Marine Cargo Nordic unit, represent AXA XL at external market and industry association events to build the company brand in key market segments

·Participate in any ad hoc project set up by the BU APAC and Europe

·Extensive and relevant management and/or Marine Cargo underwriting experience, ideally in a Nordic country

·Ability and willingness to take responsibility for the underwriting, growth and profitability of a developing portfolio in a dynamic market

·Analytical and logical thinker with a solution-oriented approach

·Ability to make decisions, lead self and others and thrive in a changing environment

·Communication and negotiation skills to an advanced level

·Languages: Swedish and English. Other Nordic languages are an advantage
