Job Summary
Details of Position
Discovery Summer is recruiting committed professional Directors of Studies for residential summer posts in leading UK boarding schools. You will need a TEFLQ Qualification, e.g. Cambridge DELTA, Trinity LTCL Diploma TESOL, or MA in Linguistics/TESOL (incl. 5 hours supervised teaching practice) plus a minimum 3 years' EFL teaching experience with international young learners/teens.
You will be responsible for the high-quality and smooth running of a forward-thinking, stimulating and varied academic programme. You will be passionate about teaching and learning and committed to ensuring classes are engaging and help students develop accuracy, fluency and most importantly, confidence in spoken English.
You will lead and manage a diverse team of teachers, providing professional development opportunities for them and ensuring all academic administration is effectively completed.
You will be a member of the Senior Management Team at the centre - this role requires a high standard of commitment and professionalism.

Contracts available for 4 weeks + 3 days paid induction.

Shrewsbury School, Shropshire years) Sat 27 June - Wed 29 July
Winchester College, Hampshire years) Mon 29 June - Fri 31 July
Duties:
- Line manage a team of 5-10 teachers
- Ensure the academic programme at the centre is delivered according to Discovery Summers high standards -Carry out some additional duties each week e.g. wake-up, bedtime, house night games
- Ensure safeguarding and welfare of students and respond sensitively to pastoral matters
- Sleep on-site, normally in a room near the students
The Working Week:
- Residential staff work a 6-day week
- 1 x 24-hour period off per week. (Sundays)
- Some time off on working days
- Free meals and accommodation at the school worth £77.70 per week

We are a family-run organisation with over 20 years experience running top quality summer programmes. We have truly multinational courses with limits on each language group. In 2025 we welcomed students of 42 different nationalities. Up to 10% of students are British: our English Student Hosts who are fully integrated with the programme.
Working with Discovery Summer provides an excellent opportunity to join an experienced team (70% of our 2025 staff had worked with us before) and acquire new teaching skills at a British Council accredited school. In our 2023 British Council inspection we were awarded 12 strengths.
