Background

Extended Reality (XR) technology has shown great potential in providing immersive experiences and enhancing user interaction with digital content. Real-time streaming is becoming increasingly popular with the growing demand for live events and remote collaboration. However, traditional interfaces for real-time streaming tasks can be limited, making it difficult to fully engage with and interact with the content such as hazardous environment. The integration of XR technology offers the opportunity to improve the user experience and task performance by enabling more immersive and intuitive interaction with streaming data. A key challenge in this domain is the transformation of 2D real-time streams into 3D space, allowing users to visualize and interact with elements in the scenes. Addressing this challenge requires innovative approaches to ensure seamless 2D-to-3D mapping, while maintaining real-time.

Goal

The aim of this master thesis is to investigate the potential of XR technology for real-time streaming task-solving and to develop an interactive XR system that adds value to the user's experience. The focus will be on the development of an XR system that enables users to interact with Axis cameras video streaming data in a more intuitive and immersive way, transforming 2D real-time streams into 3D space. This transformation will empower users to visualize, analyze, and interact, facilitating real-time decision-making and problem-solving. Additionally, the thesis will evaluate the effectiveness of such systems in improving task solving and user engagement, with a particular emphasis on the challenges of achieving seamless 2D-to-3D data mapping and ensuring real-time responsiveness.
