Software Engineering Manager - Data Science

Location: Office in central Gothenburg, Sweden

You will lead a team of skilled developers and testers in a dynamic environment where visual analytics, data science, and streaming capabilities converge. Further, you will oversee software development projects, ensuring technical excellence, and driving the team towards achieving organizational goals. 

Success in this role will be significantly driven by effective collaboration with our diverse global engineering team, encompassing experts from product and project management, user experience, quality assurance, documentation and support.

About the team

We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager for our Data Science team in Gothenburg. The team was created about a year ago and includes many newly recruited employees. The Data Science team contributes with research, knowledge, functionality and experience around algorithms, calculations and functions for the data science features in Spotfire. 

The team uses mainly Python technologies in a complex product environment. Spotfire works in  cross-functional teams in an international environment. We are looking for a manager based in Gothenburg that will manage the global Data Science team with members in the US, UK and Sweden.

Key Responsibilities

The different Engineering teams in Spotfire collaborate to develop a product – tasks can span multiple teams. The Data Science team consists of skilled engineers, including statisticians, developers and testers. You will report to Development Unit Manager Analytics.

The main task is to create a collaborative space to help engineers focus, work efficiently and make sure that the day to day operations move smoothly, new features are developed, support cases solved etc.

Strategy and Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning of the engineering department. Be the voice of the developers and set a technical direction and long-term goals for the team. To be able to do this you need a strong technical background and experience within the data science field. 

Team Leadership and Development: Guide, mentor, support and develop the team. Make sure that the team thrives and produces good maintainable code. Working closely with managers in other teams and locations to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages innovation and continuous learning.

Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other departments, stakeholders to align software development with company objectives. Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Quality Assurance: Ensure the implementation of best practices in coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

Full Lifecycle Management: Coordinate with infrastructure teams to ensure smooth operations and delivery of our releases across multiple channels.

Resource Management: Efficiently allocate resources and personnel to maximize productivity and meet project deadlines. Recruit new members to the team when applicable.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience in managing and leading software engineering teams

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development

• Proficiency in conversational Swedish

• Valid labour permit for Sweden
