This Position reports to:

Service Manager

This thesis work aims to investigate and demonstrate how OPC UA FX can be used as an automation pattern to achieve interoperability and standardization in industrial automation.

The project involves developing a prototype consisting of two OPC UA FX servers with mutual interoperability, where one server is designed to be compatible with the MinLib automation concept (including PCC and GCC).

Implementation will be done using Python or a similar technology stack.

  • Credits: 30 ECTS (Master's thesis)
  • Number of students: One
  • Location: on-site at ABB in Luleå / Gällivare

The project is not a technology evaluation, but uses OPC UA FX as a benchmark to assess its potential to fulfill strategic objectives within the Automation Vision initiative.

Your background

  • Master's degree or equivalent in automation, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field
  • Experience in programming, preferably Python or similar languages
  • Interest in industrial automation and digitalization
  • Understanding of OPC UA and industrial communication protocols is a merit
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Good collaboration and communication skills
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
