The role
The role will report to Head of Data & AI

Location for this position is Stockholm (Sickla)

Purpose of role

As a Data / ML / AI Engineer, you will help build and evolve the data and AI backbone that makes analytics, automation, and AI production-ready at scale.

You will start with a strong focus on data engineering and platform modernisation—including migration from on-premise data warehouse solutions to Azure Databricks Lakehouse—and gradually expand into ML/AI engineering, with the opportunity to help shape future capabilities around GenAI and Agentic AI systems.

This role sits at the intersection of data platforms, machine learning, and automation, working closely with Data Scientists, Automation Engineers, Product Owners, and Platform Engineering.

Responsibilities of role

Data & Platform Engineering

  • Design, build, and operate scalable ELT/ETL pipelines into Bronze/Silver/Gold layers using Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, dbt.
  • Support on-prem DWH to cloud migration (Azure) including data modelling, performance optimisation, and cost efficiency.
  • Implement batch, CDC, and streaming pipelines using Event Hubs/Kafka where relevant.
  • Develop data products, feature datasets, and data contracts to enable BI, automation, and AI use cases.
  • Ensure data quality, observability, lineage, and governance.

ML & AI Engineering (current and evolving scope)

  • Collaborate with Data Scientists to productionise ML models (training pipelines, inference, monitoring).
  • Build and manage feature stores, model inputs, and reusable ML components in Databricks.
  • Support model lifecycle management (versioning, CI/CD, testing, retraining triggers).
  • Gradually expand into GenAI enablement, including prompt pipelines, embeddings, vector stores, and AI service integration.

Future-Oriented: Agentic AI Enablement

  • Contribute to the foundations required for Agentic AI:
    • State & memory management
    • Tool/function orchestration
    • Event-driven and asynchronous processing
    • Observability, guardrails, and cost control
  • Partner with Automation and Platform teams to enable AI-driven autonomous workflows beyond traditional RPA.

Engineering Excellence

  • Implement CI/CD using Azure DevOps or GitHub.
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform / Bicep.
  • Write clear documentation, runbooks, and promote self-service data & AI usage across the organisation.
  • Actively use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and quality.

Your Background

We believe you have:

  • 3–7+ years of experience in data engineering, with growing exposure to ML or AI engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Azure Cloud
    • Azure Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, Workflows)
    • SQL & Python
  • Experience or strong interest in:
    • ML pipelines and model operationalisation
    • Feature stores and reusable ML components
    • GenAI foundations (LLMs, embeddings, prompt pipelines)
  • Experience from on-prem DWH → Azure Databricks migration is highly meriting.
  • Familiarity with:
    • dbt, ADF, Airflow (or equivalent)
    • Streaming architectures
    • Data quality & observability tooling
  • Experience from regulated environments (e.g. financial services) is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in agile / SAFe-inspired environments.
