Job Description:

The European Spallation Source ERIC is a leading organization in the field of neutron scattering. We are currently recruiting for the position of Instrument Scientist for CSPEC. This role is a critical part of our team and will be responsible for ensuring the successful completion of the neutron instrument project.

About the Role:
This position involves collaborating with scientists and engineers from the FRM-II and LLB to ensure the successful completion of the neutron instrument project. The successful candidate will provide scientific guidance and support to the CSPEC work package team, as well as interface between ESS Technical Groups and in-Kind partners. They will also take part in testing components, follow and support the installation of the complete neutron instrument, and perform cold and hot commissioning of the neutron instrument.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with FRM-II and LLB scientists and engineers to ensure the successful completion of the neutron instrument project;
  • Provide scientific guidance and support to the CSPEC work package team;
  • Interface between ESS Technical Groups and in-Kind partners;
  • Take part in testing components;
  • Follow and support the installation of the complete neutron instrument;
  • Perform cold and hot commissioning of the neutron instrument.

Requirements:
To be considered for this position, you must have a PhD in the physical or chemical sciences or any adjacent disciplines with experience studying low lying collective and quasiparticle excitations using neutron scattering techniques. You should also have knowledge of neutron scattering data treatment and modeling at a level sufficient to guide the development of instrument specific software. Experience with instrumentation, preferably using time-of-flight, is also required.
