Project Overview
The BIFROST project is a collaborative research initiative between Chalmers tekniska högskola and GKN Aerospace Sweden AB, funded by Vinnova via the NFFP8 programme. The project aims to investigate the biaxial thermo-mechanical fatigue resistance of both forged and additively manufactured superalloys for use in aircraft engines.
Research Objectives
The primary objective of this PhD research position is to contribute to the development of advanced materials and manufacturing techniques for the aerospace industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research on the biaxial thermo-mechanical fatigue resistance of superalloys, utilizing advanced experimental and analytical techniques.
Key Responsibilities
The PhD researcher will be expected to:
- Conduct experimental and analytical research on the biaxial thermo-mechanical fatigue resistance of superalloys
- Develop and implement advanced experimental techniques for characterizing material behavior
- Analyze and interpret research data to inform the development of new materials and manufacturing techniques
- Collaborate with industry partners and academic researchers to advance the state-of-the-art in aerospace materials science
- Contribute to the development of research proposals and publications
Working Environment
The PhD researcher will be employed by Chalmers tekniska högskola and will work in the Division of Engineering Materials at the Department of Industrial and Materials Science. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment, including the Chalmers Materials Analysis Laboratory (CMAL).
Requirements
To be eligible for this position, the candidate should have a strong background in materials science, aerospace engineering, or a related field. The successful candidate will have excellent research skills, a strong analytical mindset, and excellent communication and collaboration skills.
