Position Overview: Postdoctoral Researcher
Are you passionate about advancing medical research?
The Research Unit of Molecular Neurobiology at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics is seeking a dedicated researcher to contribute to groundbreaking studies. Under the guidance of Professor Goncalo Castelo-Branco, our focus is on understanding the molecular mechanisms that govern the transcriptomic and epigenomic characteristics of oligodendrocyte lineage cells. Our ultimate goal is to develop epigenetic therapies aimed at preventing and treating neuroinflammation associated with demyelinating diseases.
Key Responsibilities:
As a vital member of our research team, you will lead a full-time, limited-term project funded by the European Research Council Advanced Grant. This project will explore the functional implications of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in oligodendrocyte lineage cells and their relevance to multiple sclerosis. Your work will encompass various methodologies, including in-vivo experiments, advanced molecular biology techniques, cell culture, flow cytometry, and single-cell/spatial omics.
Candidate Profile:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. It is advantageous for applicants to have completed their PhD within the last three years, although exceptions may apply. We seek a highly motivated and inquisitive individual who is eager to explore new scientific avenues. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a collaborative spirit, capable of both independent work and contributing positively to the laboratory environment.
Applicants should hold a PhD in medical sciences, immunology, or neurosciences, or a related field. Previous research experience in a multidisciplinary international setting is desirable, particularly in one or more of the following areas:
- Neuroimmunology and immune diseases, especially in animal models of multiple sclerosis
- Multiparametric flow cytometry and cell sorting
- Culturing human pluripotent stem cells and mouse cell lines, along with differentiation into neural lineages
- Molecular biology techniques
- Confocal microscopy and histological analysis
Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics data management will be considered a plus.
What We Offer:
You will be part of a creative and stimulating environment rich in expertise and curiosity. Our research group, located within the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, is part of a vibrant scientific community that includes eight research groups focused on omics technologies, development, stem cell biology, neuroscience, and cancer research.
Karolinska Institutet is recognized as one of the leading medical universities globally, committed to advancing knowledge and promoting better health for all. We offer a comprehensive range of benefits, including extended holidays and a generous occupational pension, alongside access to modern gym facilities.
Application Process:
Interested candidates should submit the following documents in English or Swedish:
- A personal statement detailing previous achievements and technical skills, along with an explanation of interest in the research group (maximum one page)
- A complete curriculum vitae (maximum three pages)
- One letter of reference
We look forward to your application and the opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of medical research.
