Key Responsibilities

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in the field of computational genomics.

You will apply advanced computational tools to unravel how pathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) evolve and adapt to different hosts.

Key responsibilities include analyzing bacterial surface proteins involved in host interactions and predicting host-pathogen dynamics.

Research Objectives:
  • To apply advanced computational tools to unravel how pathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) evolve and adapt to different hosts.
  • Using computational methods to analyze bacterial surface proteins involved in host interactions and predict host-pathogen dynamics.
  • Identifying genetic traits responsible for the emergence of new pathogenic E. coli variants.
Collaboration and Training:

This PhD position offers opportunities to join the DDLS Research School, which provides an excellent training program in data-driven life science.

Additionally, you will be part of CARe – the Centre for Antibiotic Resistance Research in Gothenburg, an interdisciplinary excellence center connecting multiple universities and hospitals in the region.

Supervisory Team:

Principal Supervisor Dr. Astrid von Mentzer: Expert in microbial genomics and bacterial evolution.

Co-Supervisor Professor Erik Kristiansson (Chalmers University of Technology): Specialist in bioinformatics and machine learning.

Co-Supervisor Dr. Carl-Fredrik Flach (University of Gothenburg): Expert in environmental microbiology.

Requirements:
  • A background in data science, bioinformatics, mathematics, systems biology, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Experience with analyzing large-scale biological data, computing, and programming skills (e.g., Python and R).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position.
