Job ID:28802

Are you ready to oversee and drive the execution of restructuring and workout strategies for medium and large high-risk corporates? Nordea’s Leveraged, Institutional and Special Credit group is seeking a dynamic Head of High Risk Workout to lead the team working at the forefront of financial restructurings in the Nordic’s largest bank.

At Nordea, we believe in integrity, expertise, and collaboration. If you have a strong strategic mindset, a deep understanding of distressed financial situations, and the ability to oversee high-stakes execution in a dynamic environment, this is your opportunity to make a significant impact.

About our team

Welcome to our High Risk Workout team, which is part of Leveraged, Institutional and Special Credit. You will report to the Head of Leveraged, Institutional and Special Credit and will be responsible for ensuring the execution of structured workout and restructuring strategies in alignment with Nordea’s risk framework.

The position will be located in one of the Nordic capitals.

What you will be doing

As the Head of High Risk Workout, you will be responsible for ensuring that workout and restructuring strategies are effectively implemented to protect value, mitigate risk, and achieve the best possible outcomes for our customers and Nordea. You will lead our cross-border team of senior Workout and Restructuring Executives, ensuring that each case is managed with a structured, strategic, and risk-aware approach. The mission of the team is to help the customer and the bank through the challenging times.

Main responsibilities in this role:

- Overseeing and ensuring the execution of Nordea’s strategic frameworks for workouts and restructuring of high-risk corporate exposures
- Managing and leading the High Risk Workout team, ensuring consistency and effectiveness in handling complex, distressed financial situations
- Ensuring that cases are approached with a structured, strategic mindset, balancing commercial, financial, legal, and reputational considerations
- Guiding and challenging workout strategies, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and overall bank objectives
- Ensuring effective internal collaboration across credit, legal, risk, and other key stakeholders to optimize decision-making
- Overseeing high-stakes negotiations, ensuring that the team is effectively managing stakeholder relationships, including companies management, boards, external advisors, and financial institutions
- Monitoring industry trends and regulatory changes, adapting workout strategies to reflect best practices and new developments
- Strengthening internal frameworks and processes, driving continuous improvement in Nordea’s workout and restructuring capabilities

Who you are

Collaboration. Ownership. Passion. Courage. These are the values that guide us in being at our best – and that we imagine you share with us.

In order to succeed in this role, we believe that you:

- Have a strong strategic mindset, deep financial expertise, and the ability to oversee execution in complex restructuring cases
- Are a proven leader with experience in overseeing and ensuring execution of financial restructuring, corporate workouts, or distressed asset management
- Are a strategic thinker with the ability to translate high-level restructuring principles into effective, practical execution
- Have a deep knowledge in credit risk management, insolvency frameworks, and restructuring methodologies
- Are a strong negotiator and decision-maker, able to ensure that cases are managed proactively and with a focus on risk-adjusted outcomes
- Are a confident communicator, capable of providing clear strategic direction and ensuring alignment across multiple stakeholders
- Are adaptable and resilient, able to oversee execution in a fast-changing and often uncertain environment

Your experience and background:

- Extensive experience in managing and overseeing restructuring and workout strategies within a financial institution
- Strong background in credit risk management, corporate banking, or distressed asset resolution
- Experience in investment banking, corporate finance, M&A, or senior relationship management (SRM) is a plus
- Leadership experience in managing high-performing teams
- Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field
- Fluent in English; knowledge of Finnish or Scandinavian is an advantage
