Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Microbial Ecology of Limnic Systems
Job DescriptionThe Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences at the Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment covers functional microbial ecology, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, geochemical and hydrological processes, as well as aquatic environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology. This forms a unique multidisciplinary and interactive center of excellence in aquatic environmental research. The department consists of approximately 150 employees and has a national mission for monitoring the environmental status of lakes and watercourses.
The position is placed at the division of microbial ecology, located in the SLU Biocentre research environment, which includes research in microbiology, chemistry, biotechnology, plant biology, and aquatic biology. The Biocentre offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, including equipment for microscopy, metabolomics and molecular biology, and access to additional research infrastructure through SciLifeLab.
We collaborate with other departments at SLU, as well as nationally and internationally with several strong research centers, contributing new socially relevant knowledge about how aquatic ecosystems change and what causes these changes.
Subject AreaThe subject encompasses interactions between microorganisms, including viruses, and their impact on microbial evolution, diversity, and metabolic processes in limnic systems.
Duties- Develop and lead internationally successful research.
- Develop, lead, and participate in teaching at first, second, and third cycle levels.
- Teach primarily in microbial ecology, bioinformatics, and molecular biological analyses, as well as in other areas at all educational levels.
- Supervise doctoral students.
- Collaborate with other SLU research teams to strengthen interdisciplinary activities.
- Develop and maintain national and international networks with academia, public authorities, industry, organizations, and society.
- Apply for external research funding.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty, and SLU.
- Communicate research findings and relevant information to the public.
- Perform administrative duties within the department, faculty, and university.
The applicant must meet the following qualification requirements:
- PhD.
- Research expertise in the subject area.
- Teaching expertise and ability to integrate research into teaching.
- Good knowledge of English.

Additional InformationSwedish "universitetslektor" is a tenured position approximately equivalent to senior lecturer (UK) or associate professor (US). The position guarantees funding for own research equivalent to 35% of a standard salary, with an additional 15% salary support for research, teaching, or administrative work.
