Investment Manager, Sustainable Infrastructure/Cities

Job Summary:

South Pole is part of a consortium of European institutions collaborating with European cities to implement, action, and finance their Net Zero Investment Plans in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. This initiative, NetZeroCities (NZC), is associated with the European Green Deal and the European Commission's Mission for 100 Climate-neutral and Smart Cities by 2030. South Pole is tasked with hiring a City Finance Specialist (CFS) for Swedish cities with expertise in finance and sustainability. The CFS will guide cities in executing their Net Zero Investment Plans and connect city stakeholders with public and private capital.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Provide Tailored Financial Expertise: Offer customized financial guidance, training, and advice to cities for their climate neutrality investment projects.
  • Deepen Local Knowledge and Networks: Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders in cities and understand local contexts to tailor financial solutions.
  • Mobilise Public and Private Sector Financing: Engage with investors to secure financing for city projects and structure financial transactions.
  • Overcome Investment Barriers: Identify and address investment obstacles and optimize project structures.
  • Advise on Financial Strategies: Collaborate with city stakeholders to develop financial strategies supporting climate neutrality goals.
  • Aptitude for Travel: Be prepared for extensive regional and international travel on short notice.
  • Develop Specialized Skills: Enhance expertise related to services offered by South Pole.
  • Support Thought Leadership: Assist in the development of South Pole's thought leadership, services, and offerings.

Requirements:

Essential -

  • University degree in infrastructure development, financing, or a sustainability-related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial transactional and execution skills.
  • Knowledge of local and national financial ecosystems and sustainability funding initiatives.
  • Relevant work experience (minimum 5 years) in infrastructure financing, sustainability consulting, or related fields.
  • Project management skills and ability to guide multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Excellent writing and client management skills.
  • Infrastructure-relevant connections and understanding of environmental sustainability challenges.
  • Oral and written proficiency in Swedish and English.

Desirable -

  • At least 5 years in a financial role, preferably related to sustainable finance.
  • Understanding of financial markets and investment instruments for sustainability projects.
  • Ability to think strategically and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Prior experience in sustainable project development with cities or public sector institutions.
  • Engagement with private sector financing institutions.
  • Experience in urban sustainable infrastructure projects.
