To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.
The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.

We are looking for a PhD student who will contribute to the unit of cardiorenal epidemiology led by Prof Juan Jesus Carrero ). The main goal of research activities in his team is to improve our understanding on the use and effect of medications, devices, processes of care and electronic clinical decision support systems in routine clinical practice, with a primary focus on kidney diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.
The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral studentThis PhD project aims at investigating current processes of care of patients with kidney disease, identifying healthcare gaps and exploring the impact of this suboptimal care on subsequent patient outcomes.We will frame these research questions within the target trial emulation framework for causal inference in epidemiological studies.

A) General eligibility requirement You meet the general eligibility requirement for doctoral/third-cycle/PhD education if you:
- have been awarded a second-cycle/advanced/master qualification (i.e. master degree), or
- have satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the advanced/second-cycle/master level, or
- have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.*

You meet the specific eligibility requirement for doctoral/third-cycle/PhD education if you:
Show proficiency in English equivalent to the course English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school.

The ideal candidate should hold a master's degree in medicine or other health related discipline. The candidate should ideally have some previous experience or education in epidemiology and quantitative data analysis. Demonstrable advanced skills and expertise in statistic programming software as R and STATA or similar languages is desired. The ability to collaborate well within multi-disciplinary teams and independently is essential. The candidate needs good skills in English, both written and spoken.
