We are currently seeking a talented staff scientist specializing in infection biology and precision dentistry.
About the Research Project
Our research is at the forefront of combining basic and clinical sciences in infection biology to advance personalized oral care, also known as precision dentistry. We focus on unraveling the genetic, protein, and molecular mechanisms underlying the interaction between hosts and microbes that lead to increased susceptibility to cavities and overall oral health. We also explore the diverse bacteria and biofilm communities involved. With this knowledge, we strive to develop enhanced diagnostics for different caries risk profiles and innovative approaches for preventing and treating dental conditions and infections. The project involves molecular biology, translational research, and clinical components within a multidisciplinary setting. Learn more about our research group on our website.
Work Tasks
- Conducting molecular biology and biochemical experiments involving receptor-adhesin interactions and antimicrobial or prebiotic substances. This includes identifying saliva receptors for bacteria using techniques like western blot and inhibition assays with bacteria or adhesins, as well as analyzing saliva peptides and glycopeptides for antimicrobial or prebiotic properties.
- Working with human and microbial DNA and RNA, performing DNA/RNA preparations, and utilizing qPCR, probe-based arrays, and sequencing at various levels, from targeted to metagenomic, both internally and externally on life science platforms.
- Managing clinical sample collections of saliva, bacteria, plaque (biofilm), and epithelial cells, handling samples, and conducting large-scale analyses in-house and on life science platforms.
Qualifications
We are seeking a candidate with a Ph.D. in microbiology and extensive experience in the aforementioned areas. The ideal applicant should have a proven track record and solid references in handling large clinical samples and biobank archives. The ability to work independently and collaboratively in project-oriented settings is crucial. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the work, adaptability to diverse concepts and methodologies is essential. Personal qualities and suitability will be strongly considered. Proficiency in both written and spoken English is mandatory.
