About the Inter IKEA Group Media Relations team 

The Media Relations team enhances the IKEA Brand perception and strengthens the IKEA business by delivering and enabling proactive and reactive PR, global social media activations, and spokesperson support. The deliverables are based on the strategic priorities of Inter IKEA Group Communication. 

As an area of expertise at Inter IKEA Group, the media relations team works closely with the Inter IKEA businesses to identify and mitigate brand risks, strategise PR and activate product launches, contribute to creating a 360° communication approach, and advise on PR and Social Media requests from all twelve IKEA franchisees. 

Job Description   

To strengthen IKEA as a purposeful and trusted brand, business, and employer, you and the Media Relations Team Manager will work closely together, co-leading the overall strategic and tactical operations. You will lead the media relations strategy and agenda connected to the IKEA Range, focusing on range identity and design topics, the yearly commercial focus for IKEA, and sustainability topics led across the IKEA value chain through the Core Business Range.  

The Media Relations Team Manager leads the work with an aligned commercial media and PR plan, for the team to amplify and activate, based on content and priorities in the growth plan, upcoming collections and commercial recipe deliverables. In this process, the Media Relations Team Manager together with a dedicated team will actively guide and support the IKEA Range business and stakeholders from a media and newsworthiness perspective when defining the priorities for upcoming months and years.  

Furthermore, in this role, you will also be responsible for the global IKEA social media channel strategy, supporting the Social Media Leader and Partner in planning and executing the SoMe priorities and ensuring the processes are aligned.  

As the Media Relations Team Manager, you will lead by example in finding efficient ways to work with all relevant internal and external stakeholders, including the IKEA retailers, for aligned activations and support. You also play an important part in identifying the team's goals and KPIs and ensuring adequate follow-ups with relevant internal stakeholders.   

The Media Relations Team manager   

  • Is an experienced leader with proven communication competence in corporate and commercial PR, traditional and social media – with a strong ability to navigate and lead in a network-based context. You have proven managerial skills in leading and developing co-workers and teams.  
  • Is very curious and solution-oriented, with ability to spot opportunities, create engagement and build trustful relationships with various stakeholders, a strong networker and collaborator.  
  • Is a self-starter, action-oriented and capable of navigating and leading questions forward in a complex and fast paced environment, and positively influence ideas that will grow IKEA. 
  • Enjoys working at a fast pace in an optimistic and future-oriented, continuously developing organization, having a strong ability to adapt to change and navigate complexities. Seamlessly moving between strategic, tactical, and operational tasks and contexts.  
  • Is a strong and creative communicator with the ability to move business questions and create impact through external communication, simplify complexities and represent IKEA in all dimensions. You have a deep connection to what is typically IKEA and can also express this both visually and in tone of voice in a strong way.   

Job specific capabilities:    

  • Experience in working with Public Relations, both proactive and reactive  
  • Experience in Commercial PR – including social media  
  • Experience in working in a global context   
  • Ability to structure and prioritise between actions  
  • Facilitating and/or moderating media trainings and strategic discussions  
  • Identifying news angles and PR opportunities, knowing how to the media landscape works

  • Excellent communication and networking skills with the ability to build trustworthy relations with stakeholders.  
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (English).  
  • Flexible, methodical and structured.  
  • Ability to follow through on commitments and to meet deadlines.  
  • You are acting according to the IKEA values.

This role is permanent, based in Älmhult, Sweden. This will be a crucial role in developing our business and strengthening our brand, and we believe that your presence together with stakeholders and working most of the time in the workplace is important. This role reports to the Media Relations Manager.
