The Commodity Business Manager is responsible for developing and executing the procurement and category strategy for critical categories at Cepheid.  This role will also be responsible for executing the direct and indirect purchasing activities through either their own work tasks, or through a team of buyers, and negotiate contracts with the suppliers in the commodity/commodities within the responsibility area.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Commodity Strategy

  • Accountable and responsible for creating the Category Strategy and to carry out those tasks that will implement the strategy
  • Create and implement category strategy with long term development goals. Follow up and report
  • Category teams work cross functionally with PT, QA etc to secure alignment and agree on priorities that will provide the best return for Cepheid (minimizing risk, generating savings, etc).
  • Provide insights to current ways of working, supporting the continuous development of the ways of working, processes, methods and tools for Cepheid Purchasing / Commodity Business Management.

Procurement Management

  • Lead and drive purchasing projects (RFI/RFP/RFQ) procurement processes in accordance with Cepheid Purchasing Policy where at least three (3) suppliers shall be invited to ensure the right competition in RFP/RFQâs to ensure best possible market conditions for Cepheid.
  • Lead supplier evaluation, supplier selection and phase in / phase out of suppliers. Monitor the supplier capacity and delivery performance via QBR meetings and action plans.
  • Manage other direct and indirect procurement activity as well as the purchasing strategies to reduce total cost and ensure continuity of supply
  • Manage and maintain the prices and standard costing for each product in the commodity / category

Contract Management

  • Monitor and forecast internal demand as well as external supplier and market trends to identify and mitigate risks for continuity of supplier and capacity growth objectives
  • Responsible for supplier account management on behalf of Cepheid, including contracts, key negotiations, supplier performance management, and is the primary contact for escalations related to supplier for area of spend.
  • Develop a professional relationship with key suppliers through executive meetings and execution to the defined business metrics.
  • Directs new supplier introduction and/or disengagement requirements to/from the Cepheid supply base.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelorâs Degree or equivalent education within sourcing & supply chain
  • 5+ Yearsâ Experience from similar role within strategic sourcing and category management tasks
  • Fluent in English both verbal and written.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • MBA
  • Experience, background in medical device or diagnostics industry
  • Experience with OEM chemicals and reagents (or packaging & plastics)
  • Experience, background in medical device, pharmaceutical, or diagnostics industry.
  • Fluent in Swedish both verbal and written.

KMOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • Demonstrates depth and/or breadth of expertise in own specialized discipline or field
  • Excellent tendering and negotiation skills
  • Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services
  • Direct experience leading cross-functional teams to solve complex problems; uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions
  • Communicates difficult concepts and negotiates with others to adopt a different point of view
  • Knowledge and experience from contractual terms and conditions in Europe
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Power Point, Agile, and SAP
  • Ability to read and interpret product BOM's
  • Self-starter with the ability to adapt, critical thinking skills, and problem solve under pressure
  • Stakeholder management with focus on collaboration and information / education to meet the companyâs goal
