Backend Developer
to join our User Platform team in our
Stockholm
office – are you ready to hit play on an exciting career change?

The Role
As a Backend Developer at Viaplay, you will have the opportunity to work at the forefront of digital media, develop the platform to meet the challenges of a continuously growing user base. You will be working with backend services for user authentication & identity management and in-product communications, responsible for in-product messaging to the various Viaplay clients. We are now looking for a new team member to help us grow the platform, enhance our user experience and create the next generation of streaming services.

We thrive in using cutting edge technology, always keeping up to date and constantly challenging the status quo. We work mainly with in a micro-services architecture that runs in AWS. Some of our high load services are written in Rust running on AWS Lambda.

The journey ahead
You will join a kick-ass and stability cross-functional small but mighty squad team delivering engineering solutions aligned with technical and product long-term visions. The team delivers clear goals based on our customer journey and is focusing on the customer authentication journey but has other responsibilities within our core services.

Some Of Your Daily Challenges Will Include

• Running and taking ownership of technical design, complexity assessment, development, testing, and deployment
• Collaboration with other teams in an exciting and agile development process
• Participating in weekly backend guild meetings with discussions around best practices, maintenance, and long-term vision
• Writing clean, reusable, legible code that is easy to test and easy to extend
• Investing in our personal skills and increasing our knowledge every day

What We're Looking For
We understand you may feel confident ticking certain boxes more than others and that's why we always keep an open mind in our recruitment process. But, in order to thrive in this role, we are looking for a passionate developer with a genuine interest in software development and an ambition to constantly improve your skills. You have worked with a variety of tasks requiring complex problem-solving using JavaScript. If you also have an interest in multiple programming languages, you will fit right in You will be part of a team that makes things happen in a brilliant manner.

Desired Skills

• Solid work life experience developing web based services, using
• Good understanding of REST API's
• Understanding of test- or behavior-driven development (TDD/BDD) including supporting frameworks
• Experience in developing services in the cloud, preferably AWS
• An interest and motivation to work with modern frameworks

It's a bonus if you have:

• Experience working with a state-less and high transactional end user product
• Knowledge of the AWS environment and services (S3, SQS, Lambda, DynamoDB, etc)
• Knowledge of RUST
• A can-do attitude, sense of humor and the ability to work humbly with others
