The Machine Learning team at Storytel is a seasoned group operating within the Experience Domain. This domain is dedicated to enhancing the user experience across mobile platforms, with a focus on key areas such as personalized content discovery and creating an immersive listening experience.

About the role

Join Storytel's Machine Learning team as a Data Scientist and drive impact across key areas like customer engagement, automated content curation, and personalized recommendations. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and deploying models that significantly enhance the user experience, deepening their connection to stories globally. Your data-driven insights will be crucial in shaping our retention strategies and optimizing our platform experience and performance.

As a Data Scientist at Storytel, you will:

• Be part of a cross-functional environment, working together with highly talented colleagues across Product & Engineering, Content, Marketing, and Business Analytics, influencing decision-making throughout the organization.

• Collaborate closely with Engineers, UX Designers, Content Curators, and Product Managers to solve problems and explore opportunities end-to-end, driving impact with a short feedback loop.

• Partner closely with the ML and Data Engineers to ensure smooth deployment, scalability and robustness of machine learning systems.

• Design experiments, measure model performance, and shape data-driven strategies to enhance customer engagement.

• Leverage your data science competence to support reliable and effective integration of Generative AI technologies into the product experience.

• Engage in the ML community meetings, journal clubs, and peer learning activities to stay at the forefront of industry trends, share insights, and strengthen the team's collective expertise.

• Shape the future, as part of a mission-driven team that directly influences how people connect with stories worldwide.

About you

To thrive in this role, we believe that you are a passionate individual who is knowledgeable in information retrieval models and AI technologies. You are an independent thinker who can collaborate effectively with diverse teams and communicate complex ideas clearly. Additionally, you are proactive in educating stakeholders about the value of data-driven solutions and are collaborative by nature.

You also have the following experience:

• An advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields.

• 5+ years of professional experience in data science or machine learning roles.

• Significant breadth and depth of statistics/ML knowledge.

• Proficiency in Python and SQL, and coding best practices.

• Solid experience with developing scalable and reliable ML systems that serve thousands to millions of users.

• Experience presenting your work to non-technical stakeholders, translating complex ideas into actionable insights.
  
  

Bonus qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with recommender systems.

• Familiarity with cloud-native technologies and/or the Google Cloud Platform.

• Experience with model deployment and a solid understanding of MLOps best practices.

• Strong knowledge of model evaluation techniques.
