This role is a part of TRATON Group R&D, located in Södertälje, Sweden

As a development engineer you will work with developing our durability evaluation tool for the gas exchange components and you will also participate in gas exchange performance development and verification using both 1D simulation tools and tests in vehicles. You will be involved in all phases of the product development cycle from conceptual work to field quality follow-ups.

As Development Engineer for Gas-Exchange Performance & Durability, you will:

• Lead development of evaluations of thermo-mechanical fatigue for hot gas-exchange components and low-cycle fatigue of turbo compressor wheels.
• Drive a cross-functional engineering group to define test methodologies, evaluation cycles, and relevant vehicle fleets.
• Perform component lifetime calculations using Matlab and Python.
• Carry out 1D gas-exchange simulations using GT-Power to assess system performance.
• Evaluate turbo matching robustness and define installation requirements across TRATON brands and customer chassis. 

Your work directly shapes engine efficiency, robustness, and customer experience across the TRATON ecosystem.

You are a forward-thinking engineer with strong analytical abilities and an interest in sustainable powertrain development. You communicate clearly, take initiative, and thrive in both collaborative and independent work environments.

We are looking for someone who:

• Is proficient in Matlab and Python
  (Experience with GT-Power is a strong merit.)
• Holds a Master's degree in Vehicle Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent.
• Communicates fluently in English, spoken and written.
• Is confident leading discussions and guiding a group, including more senior engineers.
• Driver license for passenger car

Within our Gas Exchange Systems section, we take full responsibility for performance from air intake to exhaust. We ensure seamless integration of TRATON's engines across all brands, securing compliance with the performance, installation, and durability requirements we define.

Our team is engaged across the entire development cycle—shaping early concepts, developing system and component solutions, and supporting industrialization. We own key performance attributes, represent multiple component teams in concept work, and lead our section's initiatives in thermo-mechanical and low-cycle fatigue analysis.
