About Blykalla

Blykalla is pioneering next-generation nuclear power with innovative small modular reactor (SMR) technology. We are building a robust pipeline of new sites and future off-take partnerships, enabling the delivery of flexible, clean baseload power to the world's most demanding industrial, commercial, and municipal customers.

To realize this mission, we are seeking a Material Manager to lead our Materials team — ensuring that the steels and alloys forming the foundation of our SMR technology are developed, qualified, and supplied to the highest standards of safety and performance. Working closely with our Chief Research Officer and the materials team, you will help bridge the gap between advanced material science and industrial-scale implementation, enabling the safe and efficient construction of Blykalla's reactors.

The Role

As Material Manager, you will lead Blykalla's material development and qualification efforts — spanning research, supplier collaboration, testing, and industrialization. You'll ensure that the right materials are available at the right time, in the right form, and with the right quality for every component of our SMR technology.

You will manage and grow a multidisciplinary materials team, fostering collaboration across engineering, design, procurement, and quality. The role combines deep technical understanding with strategic leadership — turning complex material challenges into actionable solutions that support our product and construction programs.

Key Responsibilities

As Material Manager, you will drive the development, qualification, and industrialization of materials critical to Blykalla's nuclear technology.

In this role, you will:

Lead and develop Blykalla's Materials team, building capability and fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.

Work closely with the Chief Research Officer and materials team to translate research outcomes into industrialized solutions.

Oversee the development, qualification, and supply of steels and alloys for Blykalla's reactor and plant systems.

Manage relationships with key suppliers, partners, and test facilities, ensuring smooth collaboration from material concept to certified delivery.

Define and implement strategies for material selection, testing, and qualification according to nuclear and international standards.

Ensure traceability, quality, and compliance for all materials used in Blykalla's nuclear components.

Collaborate with engineering, design, procurement, and quality teams to align material specifications with design and manufacturing needs.

Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, securing reliable access to critical materials and components.

Lead budgeting and resource planning for materials projects, balancing cost, quality, and delivery priorities.

Report progress, challenges, and risks to internal and external stakeholders in a structured and transparent manner.

Promote a data-driven, safety-first, and execution-oriented mindset within the team and across Blykalla's engineering organization.

Your Profile

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

10+ years of experience in materials development, fabrication, and qualification, ideally involving steels or metal alloys.

Proven leadership experience — able to build, structure, and lead teams to deliver complex technical projects.

Strong understanding of steel and alloy development, including fabrication, machining, testing, and qualification.

Experience working with research teams or R&D environments, ideally bridging innovation and industrial application.

Familiarity with supplier management and material qualification in highly regulated industries such as energy, aerospace, or nuclear.

Demonstrated ability to balance strategic direction with hands-on project execution.

Strong communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills.

Fluent in English; proficiency in Swedish is a strong advantage.

This role is for our Stockholm office.

Why Join Us

At Blykalla, you'll be part of a pioneering team redefining how nuclear energy is designed and delivered. You'll work at the intersection of material science, engineering, and innovation — collaborating closely with our research leaders to bring groundbreaking material technologies from lab to plant.

We offer competitive compensation, a great work culture, and the chance to help shape one of Europe's most advanced energy technology projects.
