Electromobility CFD Simulation Engineer

Welcome to Electromobility, a pioneering development area within Volvo Group, dedicated to creating environmentally friendly transport solutions for a sustainable tomorrow. Our team is responsible for the transition from conventional powertrains to electromobility, ensuring a stepwise implementation in various segments and regions. We develop and drive the electromobility product portfolio for trucks and buses, as well as creating opportunities for all business areas within Volvo Group.
The importance of Electromobility is growing daily, and a key component within the electrified powertrain is the Energy Storage System (ESS). Our section is accountable for the lifecycle management of the ESS, from advanced engineering to product development and maintenance. We are currently seeking a skilled CFD Simulation Engineer to strengthen our ESS organization and simulation team.
As a CFD Simulation Engineer, you will be part of a global team of dedicated experts responsible for early development of new technologies within electrical energy storage systems. You will work in an environment with experts in thermal management and thermal simulations, participating in a wide range of projects with both short and long-term goals.
Responsibilities- Develop and utilize 1-D and 3-D simulation methods for evaluating battery pack and thermal performance and safety attributes.
- Develop and perform electro-thermal simulations for Power electronics and Electrical Distribution Systems.
- Perform system simulations to evaluate the impact on the battery and its attributes, such as range, power performance, and thermal aspects.
- Initiate physical tests and analyze results for validation of the simulation methods.
- Create technical documentation of the methods and reports of the analyses.
- Present the work to team members and stakeholders outside the team.
- Coordinate internal and external work with other departments, partners, and suppliers.
- Minimum Master's degree in engineering, with a focus on thermal analyses/applied mechanics.
- Extensive work experience with 1-D and/or 3-D CFD simulations, typical tools used are GT-SUITE, Star-CCM+, and Ansa.
- Experience from thermal-fluid model development, including cooling & AC systems and optimization/DOE.
- Documented skills with Python, Java, and Matlab/Simulink, as well as practical experience from work with thermal system simulations, like GT-SUITE.
- Experience of a similar position and practical experience from battery cell simulation job at an industrial company is a big plus.
- Experience of lithium-Ion battery and electro-thermal simulation and model development is a merit.
