CFD Simulation Engineer to Electromobility Specialist

We develop and lead the electromobility product portfolio for trucks and buses, as well as creating opportunities for all business areas within Volvo Group.
As a key component of the electrified powertrain, the Energy Storage System (ESS) plays a crucial role in our organization. Our team is responsible for the lifecycle management of the ESS, from advanced engineering to product development and maintenance. We are currently seeking a skilled CFD Simulation Engineer to join our ESS organization and simulation team.
ResponsibilitiesAs a CFD Simulation Engineer, you will be part of a global team of dedicated experts responsible for early development of new technologies within electrical energy storage systems. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and utilizing 1-D and 3-D simulation methods for evaluating battery pack and thermal performance and safety attributes.
- Developing and performing electro-thermal simulations for Power electronics and Electrical Distribution Systems.
- Performing system simulations to evaluate the impact on the battery and its attributes such as range, power performance, and thermal aspects.
- Initiating physical tests and analyzing results for validation of the simulation methods.
- Creating technical documentation of the methods and reports of the analyses.
- Presenting the work to team members and stakeholders outside the team.
- Coordinating internal and external work with other departments, partners, and suppliers.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for a candidate with a genuine interest and curiosity in thermal analyses and engineering. You should be a team player with strong communication skills and the ability to build great networks. A strong analytical mindset with the ability to take vital actions when required is essential. Your technical competence and interaction with different teams should create a great atmosphere for innovative solutions.
The ideal candidate should have:
- A minimum Master's degree in engineering, with a focus on thermal analyses/applied mechanics.
- Extensive work experience with 1-D and/or 3-D CFD simulations, typical tools used are GT-SUITE, Star-CCM+, and Ansa.
- Experience from thermal-fluid model development, including cooling & AC systems and optimization / DOE.
- Documented skills with Python, Java, and Matlab/Simulink, as well as practical experience from work with thermal system simulations, like GT-SUITE.
- Experience of a similar position and practical experience from battery cell simulation job at an industrial company is a big plus.
- Experience of lithium-Ion battery and electro-thermal simulation and model development is a merit.
