Highly Skilled Android Engineer for UI and Design Expertise

We are seeking an experienced Android Engineer with a strong passion for UI and user experience to join our Design System team in Helsinki or remotely across Finland. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining a library of design tokens and UI components that will serve as the shared design language for both engineers and designers.
As part of the team, you will be empowered to contribute to the design system and act as the Android UI expert at Wolt. Your goal will be to increase design and development velocity, quality, and consistency for all of Wolt's products, including the consumer, courier, and merchant applications.
You will be developing using both Jetpack Compose and traditional Android Views, creating and maintaining a brand new shared UI library to be consumed by other Android Engineers. The library should be easily maintainable, provide reusable and scalable APIs, and be well-documented and tested.
Our team consists of 3 Web Engineers, 1 iOS Engineer, and 2 Design System Designers. This role will be based in Helsinki or you can work remotely anywhere in Finland.
We are looking for a person with several years of experience in building high-quality UI components and with an understanding of how to build a shared library that can be easily extended and consumed by other developers.
We expect you to deliver high-quality and well-documented components with clean APIs. You should be familiar with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and the latest Android platform features.
We want you to have a good eye for design and be able to spot problematic designs, understand common design patterns, and advocate for user experiences specific to the Android platform. You should also know and follow accessibility guidelines for Android and be able to spot accessibility issues in designs.
As a builder of shared infrastructure, you will be expected to proactively communicate changes and identify potential new challenges. Collaboration with both engineers and designers is an essential part of your role.
