Job Summary


We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Västerås. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing mechanical engineering solutions for rail vehicle crash-repair, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality results.



Estimated Salary: 60,000 - 80,000 per year



Job Description


As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Alstom, your key responsibilities will include:



  • Designing mechanical engineering solutions for rail vehicle crash-repair, from concept to finalized design
  • Collaborating with teams in bid management, production, and verification to ensure seamless project execution
  • Performing requirements management, compliance solution, and verification & validation of crash activities
  • Leading technical investigations and creating railway vehicle mechanical design according to EN 15085-3 and technical descriptions in bids and projects
  • Creating Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM) and technical documentation related to mechanical design
  • Steering mechanical design reviews to crash repair methods, FEA, and related documentation
  • Providing customer interaction and verification of rail vehicle crash-repair proposals
  • Conducting design assessment of products according to relevant standards, including multiple structural analyses, fatigue assessment, joint evaluation, etc.
  • Offering technical support to the crash repair team


Required Skills and Qualifications


To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • A university degree in a relevant mechanical engineering field (e.g., Master of Science) and experience in welding design
  • Experience or understanding of 3D CAD design (Solidworks, Catia V5 or equivalent)
  • A structured mindset and strong communication skills
  • Knowledge about welding technology and material properties
  • Familiarity with EN 15085-3: Railway applications - Welding of railway vehicles and components - Part 3: Design requirements
  • Knowledge of ISO 3834: Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials - Part 2: Comprehensive quality requirements
  • Understanding of EN 12663 (including Eurocodes): Railway applications - Structural requirements of railway vehicle bodies
  • Theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience of welding of rail vehicles
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analyses (FEA)
  • Fluent English language skills and Swedish level C2 according to Folkuniversitetet
