CEDAR, the Centre for Demographic and Ageing Research, is a hub for interdisciplinary research on demographic changes and ageing at an individual and societal level. Our research focuses on historical and contemporary demographic processes, with a strong emphasis on quantitative and qualitative methods. We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team and contribute to our research environment.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this position, you must have completed a doctoral degree in history or a related field. Priority will be given to candidates who have completed their doctoral degree within the past three years. However, candidates who have completed their degree prior to this may also be eligible if they have special reasons, such as absence due to illness or parental leave. It is also a requirement that you have not previously been employed as a postdoctoral fellow at Umeå University for more than a year within the same or equivalent discipline.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment of candidates will focus on their scientific merits within historical demography, experience with working with longitudinal register data, and the quality and feasibility of their research plan. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a strong understanding of demographic processes and a ability to work collaboratively with our research team. Experience with methodological skills for analyzing historical and modern population register data using quantitative methods is an advantage.

Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will be expected to conduct independent research in historical demography, contribute to the research environment by participating in research seminars and other activities, and perform data analyses and write articles for publication in scientific journals. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with our research team and contribute to the development of our research projects.
