Job Summary

The System Administrator, IT will be part of a newly formed bioinformatic support unit at Umeå University, responsible for maintaining the local computing infrastructure and providing support to bioinformatic researchers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and optimize the local computing infrastructure, including servers, storage, and queueing systems.
  • Provide technical support to bioinformatic researchers, including training and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the bioinformatics unit to ensure seamless integration of services.
  • Document all installations, maintenance, and issues.

Requirements

  • University or college education in systems science, computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience in maintaining Linux-based environments, deploying containers, and managing queueing systems.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of programming languages, such as Python and R.
  • Experience with version control systems, e.g., Git.
  • Knowledge of the RStudio environment and Synology's DSM.

Employment Conditions

The position is full-time and permanent, with a starting date of September 2, 2024. A probationary period of up to 6 months may be applied.
