Postdoctoral Fellow in Machine Learning for Climate Science
We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team at MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to formulate their own research project using Machine Learning on applications relevant for climate studies, meteorology, and oceanography.
About the Project
The project is funded by the Swedish e-science Research Centre (SeRC) and involves a multidisciplinary collaboration with scientists from Stockholm University, the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Linköping University, and Karolinska Institutet. The successful candidate will be part of the SeRC Data Science project, working on applications of Machine Learning in climate science.
Research Focus
The research project will focus on the development and application of Machine Learning methods for analyzing data from drifting platforms, ocean models, and other instruments. The goal is to obtain a more complete picture and a deeper understanding of the multiscale ocean variability. The project will also involve uncertainty quantification in measurements from multiple instruments.
Collaboration and Expertise
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with experts in the field, including Shane Elipot from the University of Miami. The project will involve the development of clustering methods and the application of Machine Learning techniques to real-world problems in climate science.
Requirements and Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled researcher with a strong background in Machine Learning and climate science. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field and experience in applying Machine Learning techniques to real-world problems. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for this role.
