The role

Viaplay’s team of lawyers work cross border to service Viaplay’s business teams. You will be acting as a business partner primarily to the Product, Data & Tech team who develops and handles the underlying technical platform for the streaming service Viaplay, as well as our linear TV-channels, and who also provides in-house technical services.

You will work close to the business, advising on legal risk management and developing effective risk mitigation strategies. You will report to VP Legal Norway.

Your primary responsibility will be:

1. Drafting and negotiating material contracts (e.g. for broadcast services, play-out arrangements, OTT content delivery, conditional access, application development, IT procurement, software licensing etc) in close cooperation with our in-house procurement team, and supporting the business in implementing and coordinating such contracts through contract management and other processes.
2. Coordinating with your colleagues in the legal team around contract guidelines and directives of general relevance, such as default clauses and risk tolerance levels, and on contract management efforts benefiting the whole Viaplay group.
3. Building and developing business self-service structures through training, contract templates, checklists etc. to enable the business to manage certain legal matters independently.
4. Work with the business to prepare for the implementation of the European Accessibility Act.
5. Developing and coordinating structures and processes to share area-specific legal and other relevant knowledge with colleagues in the legal team to help develop, and capture, team know-how.

What we’re looking for

In order to thrive in this role, you have the following qualifications:

1. Master of Law (or equivalent) degree from any of the Nordic countries.
2. Experience (between 5 - 8 years) negotiating and drafting commercial agreements, specifically related to IT & tech, as an in-house counsel, in an international company, or at a reputable business law firm.
3. It’s considered extra merit if you have possessed a similar role within the broadcast/streaming industry, or a provider of digital service, and thus are familiar with the market landscape and corresponding terminology.
4. Fluent in Swedish or Norwegian, and English.
5. Business and solution-oriented and great relationship builder, able to create trust for the legal department in the business, and to deliver pragmatic and actionable legal advice to people at all levels.
6. A can-do attitude, sense of humor and the ability to work humbly with others.
