Since its founding in 1827, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe's leading technical and engineering universities. This project will focus on making complete solar cells through photochemical synthesis. We will synthesize semiconductors and charge selective layers in situ through the photochemical activation of catalysts and direct photolysis. The project will make extensive use of lasers and laser-based spectroscopies for synthesis and characterization of solar cell materials. The success of the project requires excellent synthetic (organic and inorganic) and physical chemistry competences.
Admission requirements
To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:
- passed a second cycle degree (for example a master's degree), or
- completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 second-cycle higher education credits, or
- acquired, in some other way within or outside the country, substantially equivalent knowledge
- a degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (MS or BS) with high academic marks OR a clear demonstration of equivalent chemistry knowledge
In order to succeed as a doctoral student at KTH you need to be goal oriented and persevering in your work. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed upon their ability to:

- analyse and work with complex issues
- plan/organize their work tasks
- acquire new knowledge
- take the initiative on research related tasks
- demonstrate creative and goal-oriented problem solving
- Prior experience with organic and inorganic synthesis ought to be demonstrated
- Prior experience with photochemistry and/or laser-based spectroscopy ought to be demonstrated
- Excellent English-language written and oral communication skills should be demonstratable, since it is required in the daily work. Although not required, communication in Swedish is meritorious.
Information regarding admission and employment
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student.
