ONE Postdoctoral Researcher in chemical and genetic screensDo you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The "Cancer Therapy" group at the Karolinska Institutet – SciLifeLab, led by Prof. Oscar Fernandez-Capetillo is looking for postdoc candidates, with proven experience in cell and molecular biology, who want to expand their training towards phenotypic chemical and genetic screens related to cancer and other age-related diseases. We are specifically looking for a candidate that would join us through SciLifeLab's comprehensive postdoctoral program PULSE: https://www.scilifelab.se/research/pulse/. Our research group is an international team surrounded by strong national facilities and actively collaborates with other competitive national and international research groups.

The aim of our group is to capitalize on our expertise in High-Content Imaging to conduct genetic and chemical screens that can help us discover new strategies to combat human disease. Our group is integrated in the "Genome Biology" Division at Karolinska Institutet, together with other competitive groups that work in areas such as DNA repair, epigenetics, advanced imaging or genomics (https://ki.se/en/mbb/research-division-of-genome-biology). We are located at SciLifeLab, where our team is surrounded by other world leaders in various biomedical research areas, and has access to national facilities for proteomics, advanced microscopy, next generation sequencing etc.

Your mission

We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist to join our team with a recent Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or any other relevant field. A background in senescence, cell cycle, DNA damage signaling or neurodegeneration would be a merit. We are specifically looking for a highly motivated scientist, who aims to complement his/her skills with experience in large chemical and genetic screens and has the capacity to independently drive a scientific research project that relies mostly on cell and molecular biology technologies. In addition, it is expected that the candidate will help in the training of junior group members. Other valuable skills such as writing or presenting capacities or social skills will also be appreciated.

Your profile

Scientific merit is the essential basis of our assessment. All applications will be internally reviewed, and the assessment done according to the applicant's competence (publications, experience, distinctions, and other relevant research merits). The applicant must have a strong background in cell and molecular biology. Experience in cancer or neurodegeneration research and/or high-throughput imaging and screenings is considered as a merit. Selected applicants will be interviewed at a second stage before making the final decision.

Applicants must comply with the MSCA mobility rule. This means that the candidate can come from any country in the world, but may not apply if resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Sweden for more than 12 months during the 3 years preceding the call deadline, unless as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention (Researchers at risk). Applicants can use the Eligibility time calculator to determine their eligibility.
The applicant cannot be a permanent employee in the lab of the main PULSE supervisor PI during the application- or evaluation process.

Furthermore:
Applicants must be in possession of a doctoral degree, awarded no more than 3 years before the application deadline (with accepted exemptions for deducible time, e.g. compulsory national service, medical and parental leaves of absences, time expended obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention). Applicants who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will also be considered eligible to apply.

Postdoc should be available for employment, ready to start at or near the announced start date, which is October 1, 2025.
