Associate Game Director [Unannounced Project]
  • Full-time
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Flexible Working Organization: Hybrid

Massive Entertainment is a world-renowned AAA game development studio located in Malmö, Sweden, and a proud part of the Ubisoft family. Our diverse and talented team of over 750 professionals hails from more than 50 countries, all driven by a shared passion for crafting memorable gaming experiences.

At Massive, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of creativity and technology, currently leading projects such as Tom Clancy's The Division 3 while continuously working on our live games Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Star Wars Outlaws, and Tom Clancy's The Division 2.

We're also at the forefront of tech innovation, developing our proprietary Snowdrop engine, which powers many of Ubisoft's flagship titles, and contributing to Ubisoft Connect, Ubisoft's digital ecosystem and distribution platform. Join us, and you'll have the opportunity to do what you love while shaping the future of interactive entertainment.

We are looking for an Associate Game Director focused on multiplayer to ensure the quality of the gameplay experience and the proper functioning of all the game systems within our upcoming game. You will collaborate with the Game Director, the Creative Director, and other core team members to define the game and unify your visions, contributing to continuous improvements.

We're offering a permanent position in Malmö, Sweden, with the flexibility to work partially from home (up to two days a week) under our Flexible Workplace Policy. Please apply using English, our company's primary language.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with the Game Director and interdependent teams to align all design, technical, graphic, and narrative elements.
  • Develop your game design direction and communicate clearly across the production floor.
  • Support your game designers in developing their features (e.g., gameplay rules, progression systems, combat systems, weapon attributes, artificial intelligence behaviors, 3Cs, etc.), while providing mentorship and constructive feedback to ensure quality.
  • Review and discuss timelines with the producer and keep the editorial team up to date on progress and milestones.
  • Adapt to technical and production constraints, feedback, and playtest results, readjusting your design direction when needed.
  • Follow up on features after their release to improve, add, or remove components; interpreting data to inform decision-making.
  • Anticipate technological advancements and stay up to date on market trends to evolve our production processes and define our best practices.

What You'll Bring

You have a collaborative mentality to ensure good morale and motivation within the entire team, being comfortable working in an international environment. To be effective in the role, we also believe that you are creative and innovative in your way of working as well as a respectful colleague. You need to bring a curious mindset and creative problem-solving to find innovative and meaningful solutions in your daily tasks.

Besides the above we're looking for someone aligned with our core values and the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in at least one full video game production, in a supervising role (Director, Lead).
  • Capacity to clearly articulate and communicate a vision and strategy.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with co-op and multiplayer design.
  • Comprehensive experience within the shooter genre.
  • Solid understanding of the technical constraints of engines and the different game platforms.

Ubisoft's 19,000 team members, working across more than 30 countries around the world, are bound by a common mission to enrich players' lives with original and memorable gaming experiences. Their commitment and talent have brought to life many acclaimed franchises such as Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Just Dance, Rainbow Six, and many more to come. Ubisoft is an equal opportunity employer that believes diverse backgrounds and perspectives are key to creating worlds where both players and teams can thrive and express themselves. If you are excited about solving game-changing challenges, cutting-edge technologies, and pushing the boundaries of entertainment, we invite you to join our journey and help us create the unknown.
