Join Our Research Team - PhD Student Position Available

Fusion energy presents a promising long-term solution for sustainable electricity production with minimal environmental impact and enhanced safety measures. We are currently seeking enthusiastic PhD students to join our dynamic research team and delve into the realm of fusion plasmas under reactor conditions.

  • Division and Department Information: Our research group focuses on the modeling, simulation, and analysis of fusion plasmas. We aim to develop predictive capabilities for fusion energy-grade plasmas and validate critical physics models through collaborations with leading fusion devices. Additionally, we actively contribute to the ITER burning plasma experiment and the design of the next-generation DEMO reactor.

  • Responsibilities: As a PhD student within the Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy research group, you will actively contribute to the global efforts aimed at realizing fusion energy. Your role will involve developing validated modeling components essential for power plant design and integrating these tools into cutting-edge modeling suites. Collaboration with experiments will be a key aspect of your research focus.

Key Focus Areas: You will work on integrated models covering the entire plasma, from the core to the edge and its interface with material walls. This will involve a blend of theoretical approaches, numerical modeling, and the application of machine learning techniques for creating efficient physics models.

The research environment offers an international platform to engage with major fusion research experiments across the globe.

As a PhD student, you will be responsible for driving your own doctoral studies, developing scientific concepts, and effectively communicating your research findings through both verbal and written channels. In addition to research activities, a portion of your work will involve teaching at the undergraduate level or other related duties.
