About the Team and the domain
The Creator Services Team is part of the Content Services domain, which is the backbone of Storytel. The team is responsible for the development and maintenance of several core systems and platforms, mostly related to processing user consumption data, and calculating and preparing royalty reports and pay-outs for all the publishers that offer books through our services. The team is also responsible for some internal tools supporting our business, as well as a Publisher Portal, presenting publishers with various means to look at reports (mostly related to financials, consumption and royalties), as well as giving smaller publishers a means to upload their media and metadata.
At the same time, we are trying to refactor parts of our architecture and to keep up to speed with modern technologies.
About the Role
Take the next step in your career as a Full-Stack Engineer at Storytel You will work with cutting-edge technologies alongside both experienced and junior colleagues. As a backend engineer, you will be involved in - and be asked to lead some of - our modernization journey, but also the maintenance of the existing platform. Your skills and experience will also be valuable in supporting and coaching more junior engineers.
About You
To be successful in this role we believe that:
- You have recent experience with front-end development (today we use mainly React, TypeScript, Material UI, Styled Components, Formik, and Jest)
- You have a solid knowledge of backend development in Java (although .NET/C# might work as well), and, ideally, experience of more polyglot environments - today we maintain services in mostly Java or C#, but even some in Go and Kotlin.
- A lot of our services are microservices deployed in Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform, and we also support a lot of Google Cloud Dataflow jobs, so any experience in that area (or similar) would be beneficial.
- Good knowledge of BigQuery (or similar, perhaps SQL) is valuable, as a lot of the team's work is centered around data processing (consumption data, royalties etc...).
- You have a good understanding of modern architecture, system design, data structures and software engineering principles, and understand how to apply them to design scalable and robust solutions.
- You are comfortable with deploying and operating services in a cloud environment (we use Google's Cloud Platform, but experience from other platforms is just as valuable).
- You have an ability to nurture others and help them improve alongside you.
- You have experience working closely with business and product stakeholders, and understanding their needs - and you are able to go from the idea stage to scalable and maintainable solutions.
- You are passionate about building great products that people love, and you always make technology choices with this end-goal in mind.
- You believe in iteration and know that finding the right solution is more important than being quick about it.
