We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join Northvolt's Data & AI Team within the Software Engineering Department. You will lead the team that designs, builds, and operates Data & AI intensive applications for Northvolt operations within Manufacturing and R&D. The Data & AI Apps team works alongside its sister teams; Data Platform, ML Ops Platform, and ML Algorithms.

Our factories produce large amounts of heterogenous data that get uploaded to our cloud platform, and are then processed, organized, and ready for analysis. You will partner cross-functionally with the Engineering, Production and Quality teams in the factories to drive data-driven manufacturing operations. We strive to use technology and data to co-develop solutions that matter, and welcome applicants from diverse experience levels and backgrounds.

Key responsibilities include

  • Leading an Engineering Team of Software Engineers, ML Engineers, and Data Engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback and hands-on career development
  • Driving technical delivery and working with your team to execute on strategy and

    roadmap
  • Advocating operational excellence and advancing high-quality development practices
  • Growing a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values
  • Being an active part of the Data & AI leadership team and collaborating with other leaders in the organization
  • Growing the technical expertise of the team

Preferred Experience

  • Communication, communication, communication. You communicate fluently and humbly with all types of different humans choosing effective methods based on context, audience and purpose
  • Proven track record of hiring, developing and growing people. You're committed to building diverse and inclusive teams; you value empathetic and direct communication and foster environments that are at once collaborative, empowering, supportive, and challenging — ones where people do their best work
  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in the design, development, and deployment of complex software applications in a data-intensive or AI-driven environment
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML technologies, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn, and familiarity with deep learning frameworks and algorithms
  • Strong understanding of data management principles, including data modeling, ELT/ETL processes, and data warehousing
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP
  • Working with a diverse set of stakeholders and helping them understand the trade-offs to different product and technical decisions

Not Required (bonus points)

  • [Bonus] Engineering foundation understanding (electro/mechanical/chemical/physical), preferably within the energy or manufacturing domain
  • [Bonus] Experience from fast-growing start-ups or scale-ups
