Overview:

ISS ESG is seeking an experienced Controversies Methodology Specialist/Lead to join the Global ESG Methodology team’s Corporate ESG-F Ratings and Controversies division in Stockholm, Berlin, London, or out of another ISS office location.

ESG Methodology is a horizontal function across all ESG research and solution verticals, ensuring high quality and consistency of methodologies, innovative solutions and gold standard in research and resulting signals. The focus of the role will be to work with the Global ESG Methodology team in driving business critical methodology and quality management projects for ISS ESG with a focus on Norm-Based Research and Controversies.

ISS ESG teams are based in the Philippines, the US, Australia, Germany, Sweden, India, and the UK. The successful candidate will work both independently as well as collaboratively with the local team and colleagues across our global offices. Working in a dynamic market and international environment, we put great emphasis on cooperation and offer a welcoming, collegial working atmosphere. 

Responsibilities  :

Build a thorough understanding of ISS ESG solutions, with focus on Norm-Based Research and Controversies and solutions leveraging Norm-Based controversy assessments and signals, including ESG Corporate Ratings, SDG Impact Rating as well as Thematic, Regulatory and Engagement Solutions;

Work on business-critical methodology projects, related among others to the further continuous thematic build-out of controversy research, reflecting regulatory developments, emerging standards and market expectations, process innovations and quality initiatives;

Conduct in-depth research on various topics in the areas of human rights and environmental protection, as well as governance, and translate findings and insights into methodology enhancements;

Establish deep relationships and partner with ESG Research, ESG Product, ESG Data Strategy, Client Success, and other teams to facilitate methodology developments;

Provide input for product developments, RFPs, complex methodology-related client requests and customized solutions;

Coordinate, maintain and enhance methodology documentation (internal and external) and provide input to database developments;

Contribute to Thought Leadership projects;

Monitor developments in the responsible investment space, review and affirm alignment of our methodology with relevant regulatory and voluntary standards.

Qualifications

Must-have:

3+ years of experience in Sustainable Finance, ESG Research, Solutions and/or Methodology Development, ideally linked to (Norm-Based) Controversy Research, Exclusions and Engagement;

Extensive experience with human rights research, or research on environmental issues;

Thorough understanding of global norms, standards and frameworks on Sustainable Development, including UN Global Compact, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ILO Standards;

Strong English writing skills, and strong technical (Excel-based) and analytical skills;

Very good project management skills, attention to detail, a self-driven work ethic, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment;

Ability to work within a team-oriented cross-functional environment, communicate and develop a strong rapport with various internal parties; experience working with teams located in multiple cities and countries;

Fluency in English; additional language capabilities are an asset (especially Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic and Russian);

High energy, passion, and drive, with a strong positive outlook.

Very good project management skills, attention to detail, a self-driven work ethic, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment;

strong technical (Excel-based) and analytical skills

experience working with teams located in multiple cities and countries;
