This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who enjoys equal parts architecture, leadership, and coding—and who thrives in environments where we "build the boat while sailing it."What you'll doAs the acting Software Lead / Interim Tech Lead, you will take ownership of the full software architecture for the client's future printing platform. You will:Define, structure, and document the full current & future architecture—services, interfaces, and system behaviorLead and mentor a cross-functional engineering team (~4 people: algorithms, UI/UX, frontend, platform)Work hands-on with coding, design reviews, troubleshooting, and system planningEstablish coding standards, modularization strategies, and long-term documentation patternsCollaborate closely with hardware, product, and research teams to align on requirements and integration pointsSupport sprint planning, estimations, and agile practicesEnsure the platform is robust, modular, and ready for future serial productionReduce "tribal knowledge" by building clear developer guidelines, architecture maps, and onboarding-ready documentationOur tech landscape (representative stack)You don't need experience with every component—but you should be comfortable navigating complex, multi-language systems:Frontend / UXTypeScriptReactBOCCI (internal frontend tooling)Services / PlatformPython, Golang, C++MachineServices, BeamService, and supporting microservicesCI/CD, Docker, GitHub/GitLab workflowsFirmware & Machine ControlC++, PythonPLC (Omron)Firmware for beam-controller and related hardware-centric systemsCore Printing SoftwareSlicer, build-file creatorFleet management systems (Golang, Python, React)Data logging, telemetry, machine monitoringYou'll work across this entire ecosystem—not writing everything yourself, but helping define how the pieces fit together sustainably.Must-have experience6–8+ years of real software engineering, capable of writing, reading, and reviewing production codeExperience leading or coordinating small engineering teamsAbility to work across backend, interfaces, integrations, and architectureStrong understanding of design patterns, modularization, and long-term maintainabilityExperience defining system architecture and producing technical documentationComfort working close to hardware, instrumentation, or complex systemsNice to haveEmbedded systems, robotics, industrial automation, or machine-centric softwareExperience scaling R&D codebases into product-ready systemsFamiliarity with documentation frameworks (Sphinx, MkDocs, ADRs)Startup/scaleup backgroundWho you areStructured, calm, and able to bring clarity to growing engineering environmentsA strong communicator who can mentor mid/senior engineersA systems thinker who sees how all components connectOwnership-driven: you take ideas from concept → architecture → execution → documentationDiplomatic, collaborative, and comfortable aligning cross-functional stakeholdersAble to work hands-on while also defining long-term structuresThrives in fast-moving R&D settingsWe are looking forward to hearing from you
