We are looking for a consultant to our client's platform team. We will prioritize candidates with
proven hands-on experience with cloud load balancers
(GCP) including
L4/L7 traffic routing
, ingress gateways, and API ingress/egress patterns.

What You Will Do (Consultant Responsibilities)
As a senior external engineer, you will lead hands-on initiatives that accelerate our cloud platform's maturity, especially within networking, load balancing, and traffic control. Your responsibilities include:

Core Assignment Areas

  • Architect, implement, and optimize load balancers in cloud (GCP), designed for large-scale device fleets and distributed IoT communication patterns.
  • Evaluate and introduce network-based solutions or enhance existing service proxy setups to improve reliability, routing, observability, and performance.
  • Design and refine networking topologies, ingress/egress patterns, and edge architectures suitable for tens of thousands of concurrently connected devices.
  • Assess and improve traffic flows between IoT devices, gateways, backend services, and cloud APIs.

General Platform Engineering

  • Lead simplification, hardening, and modernization of our cloud infrastructure—focusing on reliability, performance, security, cost, and future state architecture.
  • Enhance Developer Experience (DX) by improving tooling, CI/CD, templates, and infrastructure patterns.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with backend, data, ML, web, mobile, and IoT engineers to solve platform-wide challenges.
  • Automate infrastructure operations, security configuration, and IAM processes using code-driven approaches.
  • Contribute to platform, security, and DX vision with an external, senior perspective.

Must-Have Expertise

  • 5+ years experience as Platform Engineer, SRE, DevOps Engineer, or similar.

Proven hands-on experience with cloud load balancers
(GCP, AWS, Azure) including L4/L7 traffic routing, ingress gateways, and API ingress/egress patterns.

  • Experience designing load-balancing solutions for IoT ecosystems, high-concurrency systems, or distributed device fleets.
  • Solid understanding of service proxies Envoy (preferred), NGINX, HAProxy, or equivalent.
  • Strong experience with GCP or equivalent cloud provider, and Terraform.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms and designing workflows for multi-team environments.
  • Solid grounding in observability tooling including OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, Google Cloud Monitoring.
  • Understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar).

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with data platforms such as Snowflake, Airflow, or dbt.
  • Background working in scale-ups, rapid-growth environments, or highly distributed engineering organizations.
  • Experience with microservices written in Go (Golang) is a plus.
