Vibrations from pile installation can adversely affect nearby buildings, necessitating reliable prediction methods. A fully integrated (direct) analysis, modeling the pile, soil, and structure, is often complex and computationally demanding. A multi-step (substructure) approach offers an alternative by decomposing the problem into stages. In this approach, a critical step is determining the foundation's impedance functions, i.e., the frequency-dependent stiffness and damping characteristics that represent the soil–foundation interaction. However, computing these impedance functions for different foundation types (e.g. slab on piles, pile-supported slabs, or spread footings) remains challenging and is the focus of this project.
Purpose
To develop and validate a methodology for calculating dynamic impedance functions for various
existing building foundation configurations subjected to pile-driving-induced vibrations.
Your profile and Application
This Master Thesis is suitable for 2 students.You are at the end of your studies, and about to start your Master Thesis work for 30 HP during spring 2026.The industrial supervisor is based in Göteborg, but students from any Swedish university are welcomed to apply.
